If you can work from home and your home can be anywhere, then why wouldn’t you want it to be in sunny South Florida? While the rest of the country’s weather map is firmly in the blue (i.e. cold) right now, we are comfortably colored in yellow and orange (60’s to 80’s) with very little humidity! Even better than that, though, is the fact that there is no state income tax in Florida, so come on down!
Lately I have heard of several companies that are opening large branches or completely relocating to Miami, and our Mayor Francis Suarez is encouraging more of that. In an interview he said, “I'm waking up every morning thinking about how can our city be more resilient. And the way for us to be more resilient to deal with pandemics and civil disturbances is to make sure we have an economy that’s the economy of tomorrow." Of course the “economy of tomorrow” centers around technology, and Miami is working on building its tech framework to become the new Silicon Valley.
To become a tech hub is no easy feat, so Mayor Suarez is going to appoint a Chief Technology Officer of Miami in 2021. Like any company’s CTO, this person’s job will be to maintain and continue to develop The Magic City’s technological capabilities and offerings, meaning that we will be on the cutting edge and therefore even more desirable to tech companies and/or their employees who opt to work remotely.
I will say that when I have shown houses lately, more and more people are in town from tech hubs like San Francisco, and from other large cities like New York, Chicago, L.A., and their surrounding areas. Companies such as Goldman Sachs, Universa Investments, Nucleus Research, and Blackstone are here or are moving to South Florida. The good thing for those employed by these firms is that Miami has larger homes, amazing activities, great culture, and the aforementioned excellent weather and no state income tax! Our city is buzzing with tech and our real estate market is humming with activity, which I do not see stopping any time soon.
