Did you know that the Henry S. West Laboratory School, established in 1954, was Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ first magnet school? Affiliated with the University of Miami’s School of Education, it paved the way for Magnet programs in over 110 Miami-Dade Public Schools.
Magnet programs are designed to provide enhanced educational opportunities to students. These include five overall categories: International Programs, Liberal Arts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical), Virtual Options, and Visual and Performing Arts. Whether your student wants to learn a second language, take a deep dive into computer programing, or elevate her dance skills, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has a Magnet program designed to enrich these students’ learning and lives.
