Have you recently purchased a home in Miami-Dade County? If so, then now is the time to file for your Homestead Exemption. In fact, you have until March 1 to file in a timely manner, but if you are unable to do so then you may late file for your exemption until September, just as long as you are able to explain why you were not able to do so on time.
To get started on your Homestead Exemption application, click here . Each applicant will need to supply the following information:
- Property Folio Number
- Social Security Number
- Date of Birth
- Marital Status
- Florida Driver's license Number which reflects the property address
- Florida Automobile Registration which reflects the property address
- Florida Voter Registration Information (U.S. citizen) which reflects the property address
- U.S. Permanent Resident Immigration number (Non U. S. citizen)
While the Homestead Exemption seems small, it is important because it prevents your property taxes from increasing more than 3% annually. Every bit helps!
