Covid-19 strikes again! This time, it has caused the cancellation of two large South Florida events: Art Basel and the Tortuga Music Festival.
The 2020 edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach was scheduled to take place from December 3 through December 6th of this year, and its Americas Director Noah Horowitz said, “It is with great regret and disappointment that we announce the cancellation of our December show in Miami Beach, as we know how crucial our show is for our galleries, as well as for the greater Miami arts community and economy. We thank everyone who shared their perspectives and insights with us over the past months and weeks and look forward to returning to Miami Beach next year to deliver a successful show.”
The Tortuga Music Festival (my favorite event every year) would have rocked Fort Lauderdale Beach this November, after being rescheduled from this past April, and it has now been pushed back until November 12-14, 2021. If you had purchased tickets for 2020 you can hold onto them and they will be valid for 2021. If you would prefer a refund, then you will need to request that by September 20, 2020.
To do so:
- Visit https://tortuga.frontgatetickets.com/ and log into your Front Gate Tickets account
- Select order history under the “Your Account” tab on the top navigation bar
- Select “View Order Detail” on the order number you wish to have refunded
- Click the “Yes, Request Refund” button on the top of your order details
While I do understand the rationale, I hate to see these largescale events being cancelled. Not only are they fun, but both bring substantial tourism dollars to South Florida. Without these events, hotels, restaurants, bars, stores, and even more businesses are taking a hit. I don’t know about you but I sure am ready for this pandemic to be over and for life to start getting back to normal!
