Netflix and Organize!

Have you seen the new Netflix show Get Organized with The Home Edit? It is about a Nashville-based organization company called The Home Edit, founded by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, and it follows them as they declutter, rearrange, and order their celebrity clients’ homes. I have to admit, I was skeptical about a show that is centered around organizing, but it is so mesmerizing to see the before-and-after! It makes me want to run to The Container Store, where you can buy products from The Home Edit’s line, and purge my own closets!

I think that the show’s approach to home organizing is a great lesson for people who are selling their houses. From what I have seen, it seems like Shearer and Teplin want a home to not only look tidy and well organized, but they also want that organization to be something that a real-life family can maintain. For instance, they maximize pantry space with lazy Susans, they group books together by color, and they are big proponents of baskets and bins so that everything has its own place. It is not rocket science, but it does keep a house looking great because clutter can easily be put away, and the things that are left in sight look good being there! These are definitely tactics that any seller can employ to help maximize their home’s appeal.
