As a businessperson I find that giving holiday gifts to my clients is an important annual tradition. As you know I am a realtor, but I do think that most professionals can benefit from this practice because it is an easy way to reach out and connect with customers.
I am dating myself by telling you this, but when I started my real estate career online shopping was not an option. I actually had to go through catalogs, find the perfect items, and call to place my order. Multiple shipping addresses? Forget it! They all came to my house and I hand-delivered them to my valued customers. I will let you in on a secret: I still hand-deliver those holiday gifts.
It is so easy these days to go online, point, click, and have something shipped to its intended recipient. So easy, in fact, that it can occasionally render gifts dropped off by UPS somewhat meaningless. On the other hand, if an individual takes the time out of his or her day to actually bring a holiday gift in person, it really gets noticed. For instance, earlier this month I left a poinsettia plant and card with the receptionist at my client’s office. A few hours later I received an email saying how impressed the recipient was that I would take time out of my busy schedule to do something like that.
Hand-delivering holiday gifts might seem old fashioned, but it is a simple way to make your customers feel special – and to help them remember you in the years to come.
