How many times have I driven by the Venetian Pool, my family in tow, and commented on how pretty the it is? Too many!!! I can’t believe it took 12 years to get my daughter Brinson there for her first time! She had a BLAST swimming through all the waterfalls and caves.
The Venetian Pool, around since the 20’s, truly is a Coral Gables landmark and is considered to be one of the city’s biggest attractions. In the early days, opened as the “Venetian Casino”, it was quite the scene. Special events were held, celebrities were sited and orchestras would even perform at the bottom of the pool. YES it was drained! The pool has 820,000 gallons of spring water and I love that during the busy months it is drained daily. You’ll also see that some of the surrounding buildings are built with coral and limestone that was taken from the coral rock quarry where the pool was built. If there’s ever a time to visit it’s now, get out of this Miami heat!
