Betsy Adams and the Coral Gables Garden Club Park

As a resident of and a realtor in the city of Coral Gables, I find myself driving around the City Beautiful every day. Alhambra Circle is a corridor that I frequent, and about a year and a half or two years ago, I noticed a new park being created on Alhambra between Mercado and Mendavia Avenues. It is a beautifully landscaped park that is just shy of half an acre and whenever I drive by it in the daylight it is packed with kids and families – something that I love to see!

Known as Betsy Adams and the Coral Gables Garden Club Park, it has had a temporary metal fence around it since opening. Today when I drove by, though, I noticed that the park was roped off and that there was a sign indicating that it is currently closed. Curious, I called the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to see what is going on, and they told me that a new, permanent fence is going up around it, which seems like a good idea for safety reasons.

I am not sure why I am so invested in this little park, other than the fact that I’ve been watching it from its creation until now with fairly regular sightings. Or maybe it is because I like the idea that Coral Gables went out and paid $1,000,000 for a piece of property that then became something great for the community. My kids have outgrown parks and playgrounds, but I am happy to know that I live in a city that is investing in outdoor space for the next generation of Gables kids!
